Islamic Art & Architecture

The most notable characteristics of Islamic art is its intricate geometric patterns. Arabesque is well known such a pattern, and symbolizes the unity of belief and limitless growth (example as shown above right). The MIA library has many books to learn about these geometric patterns. A recommended book to learn geometric patterns is: "Islamic geometric patterns : their historical development and traditional methods of construction" by Bonner, Jay. For more information, contact one of the librarians.
